Ara que estem junts

This book, written by Roc Casagran, is a book that all people need to read. It is because it is about the reality of what happens when there is a war but above all how to live in a place full of horror.

“Now That We Are Together” explains the separation of two twin brothers by the Civil War. A different look at exile and life in the Algiers refugee camp. Besides, it's also a love story.

In my case, the book got me excited after thinking about how bad the protagonists of the book must have been. Another interesting thing was that with our high school, we went to visit somewhere in the book and it's difficult think about the living conditions they suffered when they lived in Algiers beach.

Finally, I think this book is very good for students because it explains very well what the time of the Civil War was like.

Hello! I’m Marta and I’m going to recommend to you a book that I like a lot and I think that you will like too if you read the genre of mystery.

I think that you will know the author because of a lot of reasons. Two of the most important are the fact that he is the third richest person in the world and, the second is that he is considered the best horror author. He is Stephen King.

I want to recommend to you my favorite book (it was so difficult to choose!) it is entitled “Pet Sematary” or in Spanish “Cementerio de animales”. For me, it’s one of the books that scared me the most. It has intrigue, horror and mystery, history and you are in constant tension.

If you don’t like this type of genre, surely you won’t like it, but you could give it an opportunity if you are interested!

Thanks for reading and I hope you like it!

See you!

This book was published by R.J. Palacio in 2012, and its movie was released in 2017.

Wonder tells the story about a ten-year-old boy who likes to do ordinary things kids do, such as playing with his Xbox or riding his bike. However, August or Auggie (as his family call him) has a special appearance because he was born with several facial deformities and it is for this reason that he received a lot of surgeries.

Now his parents think that it’s time to go to school and initially he opposes to the idea but then he accepts. Once at school, it’s difficult for him to adapt well because some kids stare at him and others talk and laugh about his appearance. Fortunately, he makes friends: Jack and Summer. Finally something unexpected happens that changes everything.

I love Wonder because of the message it conveys about bullying or not accepting people who look different from us and we judge them before getting to know them. Furthermore, it’s an inspiring, humorous and occasionally sentimental book. In this story, the author demonstrates how kids can be rude to one another and how everyone needs to accept themselves.

Donde surgen las sombras

"Donde surgen las sombras" is a book written by David Lozano Garbala in Spanish. It's a fiction book that makes you think that it could be a true story. I recommend this book because at first, it didn't catch my attention but as time went by, I couldn't stop reading it.

The story that appears is that Alex has disappeared along with other young people. They all have in common having been hooked on the Internet to a video game that is so real. With the help of a police inspector, Álex's friends will start a search full of surprises through the darkest and most dangerous areas of the city of Zaragoza, Spain.

It is an economical book that costs around 6€

I hope you like it, because I loved reading it.

Metro 2033

A book by dimitri glujovski

In a world devastated by the nuclear holocaust the few survivors that remain in Moscow take refuge in the metro stations. One of such people is Artyom, a boy raised in one of the stations that has to make a journey to save his station and maybe even the last remains of civilization from a sinister foe that lurks in the shadows.

Now that I have ended with this introduction, let's talk about why I’ve chosen to recommend this book. First of all, the setting is amazing, it is described in such a way that makes you really feel that you are inside a post-apocalyptic world filled with decay and rot but also hope. But other than the descriptions there is the world at large the micro cosmos of the metro filled with factions of different ideologies like the Red Line or The Fourth Reich and without spoiling the experience the general ominous feeling of the outside world (outside the metro). But the setting is just one of the parts of the story there are also the characters which inhabit this world and the characters are pretty interesting to but I won't tell anything about them because it would be revealing too much.

In conclusion, I recommend this book because I personally like horror and mystery novels but also because it has a beautifully crafted world and characters. It is a dark masterpiece that I'm sure you will love.

MATILDA

I’m going to recommend “Matilda”, by Roald Dahl.

Matilda is five years old and she is very intelligent for her age but her parents don’t know it. They treat her very badly because she is always reading books. Her teacher (Miss Honey) begins to realize that Matilda is gifted. In fact, Miss Honey wants Matilda to go up from grade because Matilda is bored in class. This is because everything that the other children are learning she knows from reading lots of books in the library.

The principal of the school is the Mrs. Trunchbull, who treats children badly and shouldn't be the principal of a children’s school. Since Miss Honey tells Trunchbull that Matilda is gifted she makes life impossible for her. The parents of Matilda don't believe that she is gifted and they think that the teacher is crazy. Finally, the principal of the school (Mrs. Trunchbull) realizes that she has powers.

In my opinion, the book teaches us many things. For example, that there is nothing better than being self-sufficient, when Matilda was three years old she had to learn to take care of herself. I think that there is nothing better than being independent and doing your own things. Another example is that your differences are your best attribute, the intelligence and the superpowers of Matilda made her unique.

I think that the theme is appropriate for children of eleven or twelve years old and for older too. Maybe the adolescents who feel misunderstood by their parents can feel identified. This book also encourages reading and this can foster a love of reading in children.

I hope that everyone will read it and will like it as I do.

The Anonymous

Hi, today I decided to recommend a book that I read last week (and which I’m in love with), for lovers of mystery books like me. It’s called "The Anonymous", the latest book by Natasha Preston.

The book starts talking about Lylah and her best friends, who start getting ready for the college Valentine’s party (it was at least only thirteen days before Valentine's Day) on their campus. Moments later, when someone knocked on the door, and when they opened it, they realized that there's no one there. They found only a letter addressed to one of them, Leyla; this letter was made from pieces of newspaper that says "Your heart will be mine." At first, everyone thinks it's a joke until the next day, when one of them disappears and that makes them realize that this anonymous was not a coincidence, it’s a danger. Since this moment, problems start coming up.

Well, as I said at the beginning, I loved this book because of its story, characters and their union and harmony, and how the writer describes every detail in a way that makes you not be able to detach yourself from the book until the last page. During the reading, I was imagining every scene in such a realistic image, and that for me, makes this book a masterpiece. Furthermore, the story is narrated in a very agile way. I assure you that you won’t get bored with it, because Natasha keeps the tension until the end (I'm a proof). Really it’s 100% addictive, therefore, it will appear very short. I read it in one day.

About the characters, they get into trouble several times with their best friends, you will love them, and that will make you very sad if something happens to anyone. Or at least for me. In addition, the ending is really shocking, I am one of the typical ones who sees a movie, series or book about murders and always knows who the murderer is at the beginning. But, with this one I think, I wasn’t sure at all because when I had an initial theory something happened and changed it all.

I can't say much more about the story but I recommend "The Anonymous" if you like mystery series, movies or books with that macabre touch like me. If that’s the case, I think "The Anonymous" is the perfect book for you.

I hope you enjoy reading this wonderful book. Thank you.

Bajo la piel del océano

“Bajo la piel del océano” is a documentary-informative book about marine life written by Carlos Pedrós-Alió who has a doctorate in Biological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a research professor at the National Center for Biotechnology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research.

The book is a visible book for all audiences since it teaches us the incredible secrets that are hidden under the waters of the sea. This book lifts the skin of the ocean and accompanies us with ease and scientific rigor from the surface of the seas to the abyssal trenches. On board a Norwegian ship on an oceanographic campaign, based on the data provided by satellites or on a bathyscaphe to descend to the deepest areas, the author, a marine biologist, proposes a journey that will help us understand the ecosystems marine, the decisive influence of seas and oceans in regulating the climate of the entire planet, and, in short, to become aware of the need to stop its deterioration if we want our world to be sustainable.

In my opinion I have chosen this book because I am a young naturalist. Since I was a child I have appreciated and admired nature and animals, especially those that live in the sea. Besides, in the future I would like to be a biologist or marine biologist to be able to work closer to them. Nevertheless, the most important reason why I have chosen the book is to send a message to people, to tell them not to harm the environment, pollute or throw plastics on the ground since humans aren’t the only living beings that inhabit the planet; there are millions of species of plants and animals that have the same rights as us, they have the right to be able to live in peace, following the cycle of life. Therefore, despite being the dominant species on the planet, our job is not to impose ourselves over these animals and destroy them, we have to protect them so that we can all live better.

To conclude, as I said at the beginning, this book is for all audiences, but I especially recommend it for young people, so that they empathize with animals and fall in love with nature with the goal of creating a more ecological world where future generations take protective measures for the environment and thus facilitate the life of living beings.

My island

The book My Island, by Elizabet Benavent, is a different love story. The author, Elisabet Benavent, wrote this novel in 2016.

My Island is about a young woman named Maggie who, after different traumas in the past that she wants to forget, decides to go live on a very calmed Mediterranean island, work and take care of her house, which she got from her grandmother, and decides to make a small hostel. Maggie is waiting for love to show up again, even if it's a little complicated. She only enjoys her moments of tranquility and peace, until Alejandro appears, bringing with him feelings and the possibility of believing that she can love again.

It is a fun, entertaining read and it will make you feel complicit in the situations that Maggie will have to live. It is a spectacular book, it is not a book for those who expect a story full of fantasy. It is for those who, like Maggie, are impulsive, erratic people, people who give everyone a thousand turns, who make mistakes and who many times spoil everything. It is impossible not to identify yourself with the character. For me it has been one of the best books I have read in a long time and above all one of the ones that has made me reflect the most.

Ara que estem junts
Author: Roc Casagran Casañas

Date: 1936-1939
My starts in this book:

Characters:
Tòfol, the protagonist and the narrator of the story.
Tian, his twin brother. Is a thin and weak boy.
Cisco, his father
Carmeta, his mother
Maria, his girlfriend. Is a beautiful girl.

This book is about one child. His name is Tòfol. Tòfol and his family live in a bad situation, the war. He has one twin brother, Tian. Tòfol, Tian and his mother and father, are forced to leave Barcelona to survive. They arrive at a beach in France in a concentration camp. They live on the beach for months. Tian falls ill and they stay with their grandpa and grandma. In a beach, Tòfol meets a girl, her name is Maria. Maria and Tòfol have a special friendship but later they have a romantic relationship. Tian, during this time, dies in grandpa and grandmother's house. Tòfol dedicated this story to Tian.

This book made me feel lots of emotions. The story is sad because the situation is the war, but the protagonist transmitted the positive side of it. The ending is the best because it is discovered that Tòfol wrote the story for Tian, his brother. I like the relationship between the two brothers.

I recommend this book to a lot of fanatic readers because this story allows you to learn about the situation at the moment, and also explains the life of Tòfol since it explains his adventures, his loves, his sorrows…

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME

Call me by your name is a novel written by André Aciman, published in 2007 by the editorial Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial. This book contains 271 pages, which are divided into four chapters. The author dedicated this novel to Albio, his lover.

André Aciman was born in Egypt, but was raised in an Italian-American family. Nowadays he works as a literature professor at the Graduate Center of City University of New York. This novel, Call Me by Your Name, is considered his most acclaimed and popular work, therefore it has been made into a film, which was released in 2017.

I believe that this book has become an important artistic symbol for many of its readers, because of what it contains.

This novel portrays a story which takes place in a coastal town in Italy during the 80s. The story englobes Elio’s life, who’s the main character, and his family. They have a tradition that consists of receiving international students every summer in their house, to help Elio’s father with his job, as a university professor. During the summer of 1983, they recieve a young North-American writer, who suddenly awakens Elio’s sexual attraction. This feeling evolves as the time goes by, and they both discover new experiences and emotions.

Reading this book became such an interesting experience for me, because to me it has always been a little too hard to read books in English fluently, but with this one, as I had already seen the movie first, it became so much easier to understand although it has such complex writing. Talking about the way the author writes, to me it becomes a joyful experience, reading more complex books, because I appreciate the artistry that can be portrayed in them, and the use of lots of metaphors and descriptions is a great example. I believe that the main objective of the writer is to take you inside his universe with the use of a lot of descriptions, so that you feel like you are part of the story and you are viewing everything from the inside.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes more romantic and slow novels, because it is beautifully written. I would give this book a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.

In my free time I like reading books in Catalan and Spanish. I read a lot of books, for example I read “El palacio de medianoche” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón or “Los secretos de YouTube” by The Grefg. But my favorite one is “El príncipe de la niebla” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón; it is very interesting and very intriguing.

This book explains the story of a family that, as a result of the Second World War, is forced to move to the Atlantic coast. Arriving at the new house, they are told that the previous family had a five-year-old son who drowned. They go swimming at the beach and see a lighthouse. One of the main characters, Max, is very struck by it and meets the owner's son who tells him a mysterious story that happened to his grandfather. A ship called Orpheus ran aground because of rough waters, all crew members died except one. That man was his grandfather who built the lighthouse to prevent ships from having accidents.

My conclusion is this book is very interesting and fun. I think this book can be for all the people. I recommend to all the people who like to read that if they have the opportunity to read it, do it, because Carlos Ruiz Zafón is a very good writer.
